You don't have to say that you're sorry.
You don't have to say that you know how I've been feeling.
You don't have to fix, forgive, or follow.
You don't need to provide depth or meaning out of thoughts that must be released or steer me toward landmarks that I am no longer seeing.
You don't have to give time out of your day or recount how you've been spending your very time thinking.
You don't have to say that you've felt this before. Or even that you know definitely what to say.
You don't even have to say you're sorry for the loss – if that's how you're feeling.
Try not to compare loss to trouble or justify it all from the time you healed. Just maintain where you are today, present with me.
If you must say anything, say how you're feeling.
Or even that you don't know what you're doing.
If there isn't anything to say, you don't have to say anything in particular. But don't ask me if I want to talk (generically). Or ask how much it's worried me (significantly).
Ask me specifically how I've been feeling, not specifically what I've been doing. Don't tell me it sucks, but if you hear it from me, assure me it does. Or so make me think.
Or so help me feel.
